Now that we are moving into warmer weather, managing your irrigation system becomes increasingly important. We want to apply enough water to your lawn and landscape to keep it thriving and healthy, however, over watering can be as detrimental as not watering. Over watering displaces oxygen in the soil and leaches out nutrients. Applying the correct amount can be challenging and difficult to measure and with careful monitoring and adjustments proper watering can be achieved.Â

For North Shore of Long Island that are mostly heavy clay soils, watering every other day works best during normal summer weather and existing landscapes.
For rotary zones that mostly water lawn, 30 minutes -60 minutes works best.
For Spray heads that water lawn and shrubs, 10-15 minutes works well.
I strongly recommend you familiarize yourself with your controller. Your controller is the brain for the system and this where you will make programming changes. The best way to learn is to us YouTube. Plug your controller name into YouTube and many videos will appear on all aspects of programming. Take your phone, or better yet, take your iPad over to the controller and work and program at the same time.
Many of our clients are choosing to upgrade their controller to a SMART CONTROLLER. The controller works thru Wi-Fi with programming in the cloud and an app on your phone. You can manage the programming, make changes, view reports all from the app on your phone. When weather turns HOT it will automatically increase watering. If there is a high probability of rain it will prevent the system from operating thereby saving you 1000 gallons of water usage. To learn more, please visit www.hydrawise.com.
A beautiful landscape is a valuable investment, and maintaining the sprinkler system that supports it is far less expensive than replacing damaged lawn areas, shrubs, or trees.
