Spring is here!
If you haven’t yet- It’s time to schedule your spring start up!
After a long, cold, and snowy winter the warm weather is finally beginning to appear. Each day the weather gets warmer and there is more daylight. It feels great! In another month the temperatures will be higher and more consistent and it may be time to begin watering.
At this time it is important to have your sprinkler system activated, thoroughly checked for leaks and breaks, and to insure it is working properly for when the lawn and landscape need water. In the beginning of the season all controllers are left in “OFF” position and when you are ready to water simply you only have to turn the dial from “OFF” to “RUN”.
When we activate your sprinkler system we use the following checklist:
- Turn on main sprinkler valve and slowly fill the sprinkler main and valve manifold.
- Check for leaks in the sprinkler main, plumbing, and valve manifold.
- Inspect backflow device for damage and leaks.
- Test backflow device if required.
- Turn on each sprinkler zone and check for broken or missing sprinkler heads, broken pipe, and leaks.
- Turn on each sprinkler zone and check adjustments, proper rotation and spray, crooked and or misaligned sprinkler heads.
- Check the wiring at each solenoid valve for proper connection and damaged wiring.
- Turn on each sprinkler zone manually at the controller to insure proper on/off operation.
- Program controller for proper spring watering.
- Visually inspect rain sensor.
- Evaluate sprinkler system performance and make recommendations.
Please be aware that your sprinkler system was designed and customized to your landscape and property requirements. Over the years there may be additional items that require attention. The spring turn on or summerizing of your sprinkler system is to address the proper functioning of your equipment. It is a time consuming and labor intensive effort. Please schedule your appointment as soon as possible and allow us the time to serve you! Harsh winters, like this past winter, have a negative effect on irrigation equipment and there is strong likelihood that there will be more repairs than normal this spring. Also, please be aware that older systems require more time and effort to have up and running 100%.
A beautiful landscape is a valuable investment and the cost to maintain a sprinkler system that sustains a healthy landscape is far less expensive than replacing lawn, shrubs, and trees.
