The short answer is NO. However, it is a bit more complicated than not watering at all.

The weather in April and May is cool and wet. Normal rainfall is 4” -6” per month with rain occurring 2-3 times per week. The soil has sufficient moisture to provide plants and lawn with the water they require. Evaporation and evapotranspiration is very low. Trees, shrubs, and lawns are just beginning to awaken after a long winter dormancy and do not require additional water to begin to grow.

If you have an existing landscape I would recommend not watering at this time. If you have a new lawn and landscape, I would recommend you begin watering as needed. I would suggest having your sprinkler system turned on and evaluated, this way you will be ready to water when the weather turns warm. I would also suggest you check to make sure your rain sensor works to prevent overwatering and have an automatic shut off.

At this time Rain Rich is turning on sprinkler systems and providing system recommendations.
