After one of the coldest, snowiest winters in the past 11 years, spring officially arrives on Friday, March 20, 2026 — less than three weeks away! 🌷

Spring start-ups will begin on or around that date. We highly recommend calling early to schedule your sprinkler system start-up. Our goal is to have all irrigation systems fully operational by Memorial Day weekend.

What to Expect During Your Irrigation Start-Up

Because of this winter’s extreme conditions, we anticipate more repairs and replacements than in recent years — especially for systems that are 10 years or older.

Extreme cold leads to frozen ground that exerts tremendous pressure on pipes, fittings, and sprinkler heads. Repeated freeze–thaw cycles increase stress on system components. Additionally:

  • Sprinkler heads and piping near driveways, sidewalks, and streets may have been damaged by snowplows, snowblowers, or shovels.
  • Older systems become brittle over time and are more prone to cracking or leaking once water pressure is restored.

What You Can Expect from Rain Rich This Spring

When you schedule your appointment, the Rain Rich team will:

  • Slowly turn on the water to the system
  • Activate each irrigation zone
  • Inspect every sprinkler head and component
  • Follow a detailed checklist developed over 40 years ago

If we discover any issues, we will notify you and obtain your approval before performing repairs.

Once the inspection is complete, we will leave your controller in the “Off” position. When you’re ready to begin regular watering, simply turn the dial to “Auto.”

For most established landscapes, based on average spring weather, regular watering is typically not necessary until late May.
