Halloween is tomorrow and we wanted to provide you with tips to be sure your day is safe and fun!

  • Travel in large groups and always have adult supervision.
  • Keep children on sidewalks and encourage them to walk and not run.
  • Always check candy! Check for choking hazards like hard candies and throw away any candy that is not wrapped properly. Always throw out any homemade treats.
  • Pay special attention to children with allergies and have back up candy for them that is allergy free!
  • Choose bright costumes so that when the sun goes down your children can be seen. Take advantage of the local dollar store and purchase some necklace flashlights or glow in the dark bracelets. Children love them and it will help keep them safe!
  • Install outdoor lighting to illuminate the area around your home during Halloween.
  • Use extra caution while driving. Drive extra slow and if you do not need to drive then don’t! Stay home and hand out candy for children!

Take advantage of local trick or treating programs such as:

  • Smith Haven Mall located in Lake Grove: A spooktacular, safe trick-or-treating environment for all of your little ghouls and goblins.   • FREE Halloween Festival: Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2-5pm in Stony Brook Village, 111 Main St., Stony Brook. Event is for children ages: 3-8 trick-or-treat and play some games! com
  • Annual Children’s Halloween Costume Parade at Gerard Street, Huntington Village at 1:00 PM. Meet at the Huntington Post office. The parade moves east down Gerard and south down Wall St.  The Village merchants also sponsor “Safe Trick or Treat.
  • 10/31 Trick or treating in Cold Spring Harbor on Main Street is always an easy and fun place to go with the little ones.
