Summer has arrived here on Long Island and along with it comes the hot weather! Normal watering is typically every other day. Due to high heat and dry weather, you may want to increase your watering to every day. When the weather cools down you can adjust your controller and return to your every other day schedule.
If you live in Nassau County the ordinance is homes with odd numbers are only allowed to water on odd days of the month and even numbered homes water on even days of the month. With the hot dry weather, you will need to increase your watering duration. Normal run times are 30-45 minutes for rotary zones and 10-15 minutes for spray zones. You may want to increase your watering duration times 30- 40% when temps are above 90 degrees. Another option during high heat and dry weather is to run your system during the day to cool lawn and plant material. The water that comes from Aquifer is 54 degrees and the cool water will help to de-stress your landscape. You can easily run your controller manually and water every zone or choose individual zones.
