Fall Lawn Care
I recently received a bunch of requests asking how much to irrigate now that the weather has cooled down. It’s a good question and the answer is: about ¼ of what you would normally water in the summer time.
Example: if you water for 40 minutes per zone in the summer then only water for 10 minutes per zone in October.
I do not believe you need to water every day. Every other day or once every three days should be sufficient for existing lawns and landscapes however if you are landscaping or seeding your lawn then water every day until end of October. I strongly believe that you should plan to winterize your sprinklers in November. It’s too difficult to time the winterizing with respect to cold weather and not worth the effort as the cool weather keeps the moisture in the ground and most plants, especially grass, do not have much leaf growth.
