The Long Island Drought Continues!

The October drought continues and although lawn and landscapes could use irrigation the time to winterize your sprinkler system is NOW! Fortunately, there is rain in the forecast this next week and that should help. The weather can change at any time and it’s not unusual for temperatures to fall below freezing. When temperatures fall below freezing it can damage your sprinkler system. The good news is your landscape does not require as much water as it is no longer growing and is preparing for dormancy.

If your system has not been winterized, then I would recommend continuing watering. Keep to the watering schedule and call to have your system winterized as soon as possible.

Of the many amazing attributes regarding plants and nature is that it is incredibly resistant to adversity. Millions of years of evolution has built into their DNA the ability to survive dry weather and droughts.

According to NOAA, the long-range forecast looks like rainfall will return to normal in the next few weeks and for November. Visit weather.gov to learn more.

Regardless of the rainfall predictions the temperatures will continue to fall, and sprinkler systems will need to be shut down and winterized.
